Dr. Geoffrey Berthiaume
Veterinarian/Owner, Topaz Veterinary Clinic
Dr. Berthiaume grew up in New Hampshire always loving animals, birds, insects, and nature. At Keene State College in New Hampshire, he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology and graduated Magna Cum Laude. While in college, Dr. Berthiaume was always involved with animals working as a park ranger for the Army Corps of Engineers and as a veterinary assistant at the Monadnock Region Humane Society. Dr. Berthiaume attended Tufts University School of Veterinary Medicine, graduating as a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine in 1996. Following graduation, he worked at a mixed animal practice in New Hampshire for one year taking care of a variety of animals including cats, dogs, horses, sheep, rabbits and even a bear cub! He and Dr. Marzke then married and moved to Arizona where they have been practicing since 1997. In his free time, he enjoys hiking, reading, refurbishing motorcycles. and spending time with his family.
Dr. Sarah Marzke
Veterinarian/Owner, Topaz Veterinary Clinic
Dr. Marzke grew up in Tempe, Arizona and decided she wanted to be a veterinarian in first grade. Her experiences with her own pets (including her beloved dog "Topaz") as well as many hours spent volunteering and later working at a veterinary hospital inspired her to pursue this career. She left Arizona to attend Princeton University where she majored in Ecology and Evolutionary Biology. She graduated with honors from Princeton and then attended Tufts University School of Veterinary Medicine in Boston, Massachusetts. She graduated as a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine from Tufts in 1996 and was awarded the American Animal Hospital Association Senior Student Award for Proficiency in Small Animal Medicine and Surgery. Following graduation, Dr. Marzke completed an intensive one year internship in small animal medicine, surgery, emergency, and critical care at Santa Cruz Veterinary Hospital in California. Dr. Marzke then moved back to Arizona with Dr. Berthiaume in 1997 and they have been practicing here ever since. In her free time, she enjoys hiking, playing piano, reading, spending time with her family, and running with her dog "Storm".
In addition to their two daughters, Dr. Berthiaume and Dr. Marzke have five furry children: Lily, a staffordshire terrier, Storm, a black lab, Little John, a chocolate lab, and two cats, Smudge and Bunny. They also have a tortoise named Squirt and several indoor fish tanks as well as an outdoor koi pond that Dr. Berthiaume built.
